I really had a hard time putting this book down. With one exciting adventure after another, there was great insight into life as a stewardess, all told with a very human approach, making The Girls in Blue so real, as if you knew each girl intimately. I could hardly wait to hear who went where on the next layover and of course food preparation in the galley keep me salivating and running to the frig only to be disappointed nothing was quite as elegant waiting for me. Most fascinating was what was right and acceptable then as opposed to now. Ideas on sunbathing being a great example and of course the almost blind faith people seemed to have in each other. Today most people would not think of going out to dinner or jumping in a car with a total stranger (yet many do with often disastrous results). What a difference! It seems we are not necessarily progressing in the right direction. Hurrah for these girls reaching for their dreams and many achieving them. A delightful read that I would highly recommend.

I enjoyed this book..
Great book
As a former Pan Am flight attendant I try to purchase any publications about Pan Am & my former co-workers.
If you are looking for an honest, compelling look inside the lives of flight crew, this book is a great read. Although true, it reads much like a novel, and I had a hard time putting it down. The story, the glamour, the detail, the heartbreak, the adventure--all make for a delightful, informative read. This book portrays the Pan Am stewardesses of that era honestly, but as the true professionals they were.
Bought this book for my friend who was a Pan Am flight attendant at this time. She was over-the-top excited to read it. Brought back so many memories for her
As a former Pan Am stewardess (and flight attendant) from 1965 to 1986, I'm thrilled that this book is so well written and contains so many details about those wonderful years that we were so lucky to experience. When I started flying for Pan Am, I felt that more things happened to me every month than had ever happened to me in my prior 22 years! This book captures the feeling of excitement and adventure that is so difficult to explain to anyone who didn't experience it. Whatever was happening in the world outside of the U.S., Pan Am was usually there. And if I didn't personally experience it, then chances are that someone I knew did. Our true Pan Am stories probably sound like exaggerations, because they run the gamut from exciting, hilarious, tragic, romantic, scary, and poignant. It was by no means always glamorous, but for me, even the hard times were always interesting. Congratulations, Lesley. You make us proud!
Because Lesley's time with Pan Am immediately preceded my own, I found her stories both relevant and familiar. The amount of detail she used--names, places and events--leads me to believe she kept a journal of her experiences, from which she drew to write her book. Her imagery is excellent, effectively immersing the reader in the sights, smells and emotions of her experiences. I recommend this book for anyone who would like a close-up view of what it was like to be one of the "Girls in Blue" in the 1960's.
